10 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Co-Parent
These are the conversations that matter most, before you commit to conceiving with someone.
- What kind of involvement do you want as a parent — daily, weekly, occasional?
- What are your views on discipline and education?
- How will finances be split, and what happens if income changes?
- What happens if one of us moves to another city or country?
- How do we handle future romantic relationships and their role in the child's life?
- What are your religious or cultural expectations, if any?
- How do we want to resolve disagreements?
- What is your family's role — grandparents, siblings — expected to be?
- Are you open to a written, lawyer-reviewed agreement?
- What does "co-parent" mean to you, in one sentence?
There are no universally right answers — only compatible or incompatible ones. Ask these early, before emotional investment makes disagreements harder to navigate.
